Since its initial startup, the industrial high brackish reverse osmosis system has been running smoothly with minimal trouble-shooting. Brackish reverse osmosis systems remove salt and most other impurities found in water. They lend themselves to be used in places where consumable water is salty and contains dissolved minerals which can be challenging to be taken out by any other methods.

Brackish reverse osmosis systems utilize the process of reverse osmosis to purify salty water. A high pressure pump is used to force water molecules through a semipermeable membrane leaving salt and other contaminants behind. Potable water is collected from the permeate side of the membrane, and water containing the concentrated salt and other impurities are discharged down the drain from the concentrate side. The average brackish reverse osmosis system consists of multimedia and activated carbon filters, a water softener with brine tank, the RO system with membranes, and a UV sterilizer post-treatment.

Brackish water is known as the water with a level of salinity or total dissolved solids between freshwater and seawater. Creeks or river areas are good examples where you can find brackish water. An estuary is a location where saltwater and freshwater mix, typically around the opening of a river, and many industrial and commercial water treatment facilities pull water from such locations. These brackish water reverse osmosis systems are for commercial and industrial systems that need high rejection and operating pressures as low as 200 psig are recommended.

Water Challenges: Highly brackish water has more than the average PPM TDS that water from brackish sources contains, which usually amounts to closer than 12,000 PPM TDS. Highly brackish water necessitates a greater extent of purification for the elimination of its elevated levels of contaminants. This leads to the incorporation of higher pressure pumps used by reverse osmosis systems that work to push water with high amounts of salt and other impurities through the membranes. What is ultimately produced is a fresh, potable water that is free of virtually all of its contaminants and able to be consumed by people.

Applied Solution: Pure Aqua, Inc. successfully manufactured and supplied an industrial high brackish reverse osmosis system to a major water treatment company in Lebanon. The objective was to produce drinking water with less than 500 ppm. The product water capacity was 130,000 GPD from a well water of approximately 11,000 ppm TDS. The industrial high brackish reverse osmosis system was selected from our RO-400 series and came complete with an advanced PLC, two high pressure stainless steel pumps, pre and post treatment, and VFD.
