Water Concern: Municipal water contains an abundant of certain contaminants like chlorine, calcium and magnesium that affect multiple of the applications restaurants depend on their water supply. Chlorine heavily affects the taste of beverages in particular. Calcium and magnesium contribute to the scaling of equipment and appliances due to hardness effects. Scaling overtime can jeopardize the cleanliness of appliances and equipment. Total dissolved solids (TDS) is another factor present in city water that influences the quality of product produced by the restaurant. Therefore, a water treatment system is essential to enhance the applications of restaurants rather than hindering them.

Applied Solution: A commercial reverse osmosis water machine was recommended to treat city water for restaurant application. To treat the contaminants for this industry, the commercial RO system consists of a three-stage process. First, the water is fed into a carbon filter that reduces the chlorine levels to prevent beverages from acquiring an unpleasant taste. Second, the water is passed through a twin alternating water softener to reduce the hardness by treating calcium and magnesium. This stage will prevent appliances from scaling and ensure the longevity of restaurant equipment. Third, the flow proceeds to the commercial RO purifier for TDS reduction as well as other remaining contaminants to produce high quality water.
