Water Challenges: Seaside work sites are essentially construction sites that occur along the seaside. These sites require the usage of seawater reverse osmosis systems that work to convert the abundant seawater into usable freshwater. The SWRO systems are used once the seawater is passed through different pre-filters to take out particulates from water. It is then moved into a water softener tank to eliminate hardness which can cause damage to the membranes within the system. Once the hardness is removed, the water is pushed through semi-permeable membranes within the actual commercial seawater reverse osmosis system to take out particles that the pre-filters bypassed. The membranes are designed to only permit water molecules pass through while rejecting salts, particulates, and other impurities from carrying on. This is when fresh, purified water comes out on the permeate side while salt, particulates, and other impurities are discharged into a drain from the concentrate side. The newly produced fresh water is not utilized for throughout the operation of the seaside work site and also as consumable drinking water.

Applied Solution: A commercial seawater reverse osmosis system was supplied to a major company in Ghana. The system came complete with microprocessor control panel along with pretreatment consisting of multimedia filters and antiscalant dosing systems. The SW-0.38K-125 system was designed to produce 380 GPD at a maximum 15,000 PPM feed water TDS. The system was selected from our SWC Series. From its initial start-up, the system has been operating accordingly with minimal trouble-shooting. Commercial seawater reverse osmosis systems are designed for the removal of large quantities of salt and other impurities from highly inconsumable water sources such as the sea. These systems take advantage of a well-known process called “Reverse Osmosis” to help in purifying seawater.
