The distinctive building blocks of matter those make up every material substance. An element is defined in chemical terminology as a substance that consists of atoms with a number of protons. Another way of understanding elements is to keep in mind that the atoms within a specific element consist of the same atomic number. Elements are basic substances in regards to their chemicals and are unable to be broken down using chemical reactions.
