Since its initial startup, the industrial brackish reverse osmosis plants have been operating accordingly with minimal trouble-shooting. Industrial brackish reverse osmosis plants are manufactured and designed to remove massive amounts of salts, organics, and other impurities through a method called “reverse osmosis”.
Reverse osmosis is a pressure-driven method utilized to eliminate salt from water through a semipermeable membrane. A high pressure pump is employed to pressurize brackish water against the surface of the semi-permeable membrane moving salt, organics, and other impurities across the membrane resulting in the emergence of purified water on the lower-pressured side. The rejected salt and other impurities and are discharged into the brine stream and then flushed down a drain.
The average brackish reverse osmosis plant is comes complete with pretreatments such as multimedia filters to remove particulates, activated carbon filters to remove chlorine, odor and color, a water softener with brine tank to remove hardness, and a UV sterilizer to kill bacteria.

Water Challenges: Providing fresh drinking water for new communities throughout Egypt has become increasingly difficult as the nation’s water resources continue to diminish. Rivers, such as the Nile and underground waterways are being utilized by other African countries for industrial purposes, which creates issues of contamination as a result of these practices. Consequently, these water bodies are no longer reliable drinking water sources and must undergo thorough water treatment in order to be considered consumable. Reverse osmosis has been adopted as a water treatment solution for brackish water sources that consist of high levels of contaminants such as total dissolved solids (TDS). As the contaminants are removed from the feed water, it becomes fresh and potable water that is available for new communities.

Applied Solution: Pure Aqua, Inc. successfully manufactured and supplied brackish water industrial reverse osmosis plants to a major company in Egypt. The objective was to produce drinking water with less than 500 ppm. The plants consisted of three identical RO systems with feed/backwash pumps, multi-media filters and chemical dosing systems. The three RO systems were each designed to produce 126,816 GPD from surface water of approximately 800 PPM TDS. The systems were selected from our RO-400 series and each was controlled by its own PLC.
