Water Concern: Silica is a widely spread element found in compounds all throughout the world. Due to its solubility, silica is a common issue for boiler feed applications high temperatures and pressure are not in their favor. The composition of soluble silica allows it to vaporize at high temperatures and as the steam cools down, it then turns into precipitate on the surface of the metal equipment. This results in silica deposits of glass-like texture on the energy generators which can accumulate and build up to cause systemic issues. This makes it one of the most critical concerns of water quality in the boiler feed industry. In order to supply efficient long-term operations, a purification system is required to thoroughly remove these problematic elements.

Applied Solution: An industrial tap water reverse osmosis system was recommended to reduce silica accounts of city water. This system included a carbon filter as pre-treatment to the RO unit. The carbon filter consisted of activated carbon meant to remove chlorine, dissolved organic chemicals, and suspended matter. Then, the water is fed into the RO system to purify the water and produce a capacity of 87,000 gallons per day. This particular RO machine was equipped to reduce the initial 600 PPM TDS to less than 20 PPM TDS overall in the product water. A microprocessor control panel was also included to facilitate operational control of the entire system.
