Water Concern: High nitrate concentrations is capable of producing the growth in algae through the utilization of eutrophication in water sources. Animals such as cattle are vulnerable to poisoning after ingesting water or plants with high nitrate concentrations. Humans are also at risk when exposed to elevated nitrate concentrations that can cause diseases like blue baby syndrome and methemoglobinemia which are known to occur in infants. Because of the serious nature of heavy nitrate consumption in water, many environmental agencies have placed strict regulations to ensure nitrate removal from water before being supplied to society. As of today, there is a maximum level of 50 mg/L of nitrate in water allowed for safe human consumption.

Applied Solution: Our objective was to produce drinking water with less than 500 ppm and to remove nitrate and selenium for the purposes of meeting stringent environmental discharge limits. Pure Aqua’s BWRO systems are built with industry-leading technology to treat unclean water and eradicate salts, along with other impurities such as the removal of nitrate from water. Our BWRO series are also designed with pre-engineered and pre-assembled features which help to greatly reduce installation and start-up time. Custom arranged BWRO solutions also make for quick fixes for water which contain high levels of TDS or greater flow capacities. Pure Aqua’s brackish water reverse osmosis systems are fully automated, which minimizes labor demands and increases the efficiency of removing critical ions. As aforementioned, the removal of nitrate from water is the standard operation that these systems are used for, while requiring replacement between four to seven years.

[custom-usage]
Based on preliminary water content, system pressure and water temperature, approximately 85 to 95 per cent of the nitrates can be extracted with reverse osmosis.
