Commercial seawater reverse osmosis machines are built for the purpose of removing enormous amounts of salt and other contaminants from highly inconsumable water sources like the sea. These machines employ a process called "reverse osmosis" to assist in purifying seawater. These machines begin by first moving seawater through several pre-filters to remove particulates from water. The next step is to move it through a water softener tank for hardness removal. After the water softener step, the water is forced through semi-porous membranes within the commercial seawater reverse osmosis machine to remove any particulates that the pre filters didn’t catch. Water molecules are only permitted to the tiny pores of the membrane, while denying salts, particulates, and other contaminants from carrying on. Finally, fresh, purified water emerges on the permeate side and is ready to be collected while salt, particulates, and other contaminants are discharged into a drain from the concentrate side.

Water Challenges: High concentrations of salt in seawater makes it an unusable source of drinking water. Since too much salt in the human body produces problems such as dehydration and kidney malfunctions, it is considered highly toxic. Drinking large amounts of seawater will eventually dehydrate a person to the point of death. For this reason, it is imperative to utilize water treatment systems that will effectively remove excess salt from the water, including other impurities for the production of fresh, clean water. Reverse osmosis has been the most popular choice of treatment in regards to converting seawater to freshwater. Our team has delivered seawater reverse osmosis systems to the country of Kenya to fulfill this same application.

Applied Solution: A commercial seawater reverse osmosis machine to a major company in Kenya. Pure Aqua, Inc. manufactured a Seawater Reverse Osmosis system to be used from a port based in Africa. The system includes a multimedia filter to remove suspended solids in addition to a chemical dosing system as pre-treatment for the RO system. The RO system is designed to produce up to 1,300 GPD of product at a maximum 15,000 PPM feed water TDS. From its initial start-up, the machine has been functioning properly with minimal trouble-shooting.
