The job of reverse osmosis is to combat the osmotic pressure of a natural process called "osmosis". Osmosis naturally moves salt through a very fine membrane from an area with low saline concentration to an area with high saline concentration. Osmosis does this so it can gain an equal amount of saline concentration on both sides. To put this natural process to a stop, reverse osmosis forces osmosis in the opposite direction by utilizing a high pressure pump that applies excessive pressure to the highly concentrated saline side of the membrane. The pressure forces only water molecules through the fine pores of the membrane while blocking salts and other impurities from flowing through. Purified, potable water successfully emerges on the permeate side while salt and other impurities are thrown into a drain from the concentrate side.

Water Challenges: Public expenditures such as the provision of drinking water has been failed to be supplied to a huge portion of the population which inhabits the Arabian/Persian Gulf. Countries within the Arabian/Persian Gulf have resorted to the desalination of seawater as a source of freshwater which can be produced in large quantities as drinking water. Seawater RO machines are mainly manufactured for the removal of large quantities of salt and other impurities from highly inconsumable water sources like the sea. These machines take advantage of a popular method known as "reverse osmosis" to help in seawater purification and the production of fresh, clean drinking water.

Applied Solution: Pure Aqua, Inc. have completed the manufacturing of a seawater reverse osmosis system for the country of Kuwait, to be used on the Arabian/Persian Gulf. This system is expected to produce 3-4 GPM (4,700 GPD) of product water. The feed water is estimated to be about 42,000 PPM and the product water quality is estimated to be less than 500 PPM. From its initial start-up, the SWRO machine has been functioning properly with minimal trouble-shooting.
