Water Challenges: Clean in place elements are required by water treatment systems in order to remove the scaling of minerals around the surface of the membranes. The fouling of membranes occur due to the build of minerals, biological substances, particles and organic compounds. It results in an overall decrease in membrane performance, with water purification methods such as reverse osmosis becoming unable to achieve normal capabilities. In addition, functioning and maintenance costs become higher to effectively clean or replace inefficient membranes. RO cleaning skids are the primary treatment method used to cleanse these harmful impurities before their effects on the membranes continue to hamper performance.

Applied Solution: Pure Aqua, Inc. designs and manufactures water treatment systems in addition to ro cleaning skids. This RO cleaning skid was completed and shipped for use in Yemen. The cleaning skid is put into a system in order to clean the ro membranes while they are in the system. It is designed to supply solution to three 8 inch diameter pressure vessels at the same time. These cleaning skids are not utilized periodically, rather used to remedy a specific condition, which generally can be a detection of pressure drops, or a reduction in permeate flow.
