Water Challenges: Hard water carries elevated levels of mineral deposits that build and trap bacteria, which results in issues of smell and irritability when exposed to human skin. These problems have led to major problems in the laundry business, when hard water is unwittingly used to wash clothes. Hard water compromises the absorbency of clothes and towels by trapping residue and holding onto unwanted substances such as detergent, which releases residual suds. To make this problem worse, the residue that is stuck on the fabric has a tendency to hold disease-causing bacteria as well. In order to prevent this from occurring, the minerals found in hard water must be eliminated through the use of water softeners.
