DYSTROPHIC LAKES

Acidic bodies of water that contain many plants but few fish, due to the presence of great amounts of organic matter. Dystrophic lakes consist of very low collection of dissolved nutrients to reinforce substantial plant life while containing large degrees of highly acid, brownish waters that are mired in undecomposed plant components, which ultimately develops into marshes or peat bogs. Dystrophic lakes are lakes that incorporate large degrees of humic matter and natural acids. These substances when found existing in water create issues regarding color alterations (brownish colour) and results in a very low pH of between 4 - 6.
