From its initial start-up, the SWRO system has been operating accordingly with minimal trouble-shooting. An industrial seawater RO system is designed to eliminate enormous quantities of salt and other contaminants from seawater using a technology called reverse osmosis. The reverse osmosis technology consists of using a high pressure pump which exerts extreme pressure to salty water, pushing it through semi-permeable membranes while rejecting salts and other contaminants from going through. The amount of pressure that needs to be applies relies on the ocean's specific TDS and temperature. The RO membranes are specifically built to remove particulates while dividing the feed water between purified water and rejected concentrated salts. The salts and the other contaminants are discarded into the brine stream then flushed into a drain. Finally, purified water with 99% less dissolved salts comes out on the permeate side and is ready to be collected.
