Water Challenges: A high concentration of iron in water is a usual quality reduction problem for industries. Dissolved iron exists in the vast majority of groundwater and is formed from the minerals and rocks that makeup the earth’s crust. Signs of high levels of iron can include changes in color to a brownish red or yellow texture.
Applied Solution: Greensand is a naturally occurring glauconitic greensand capable of reducing the above mentioned ions through oxidation and filtration. Once the ions are oxidized and precipitated, they are removed by backwashing the media. Once the oxidizing capacity is exhausted, the media can be regenerated by either a Chlorine or KMnO4 solution. GSF is available in different flow rate capacities and media volumes. It can be configured to run as a single stand-alone unit or multiple-tanks, which run altogether or in sequence depending on the application.
Elevated levels of iron requires the use of more advanced oxidizing treatment, such as greensand filters to flush out all existing iron particles from the feed water.
