Water Concern: Sulfate is common naturally occurring element in surface and well water. Due to its ionic composition, studies have shown that sulfate significantly increases the electro conductivity of soil. Likewise, the sodium absorption ratio (SAR) of the soil rises with sulfate present in the water. These elevated measures have negative effects onto the production of the crops. Two major factors have been proven to be affected by these elevated parameters; yield and quality. The product yield has been shown to decrease by around 20% due to the effects sulfate has on conductivity and sodium absorption ratio (SAR). Crops are shown to grow smaller in size and therefore decrease the product yield greatly. Quality is also known to deteriorate in products with soil suffering from elevated SAR and electro conductivity. For this reason, it is necessary to supply irrigation systems with purified water to allow the necessary nutrients flow to the roots of the crops and maximize production operations.

Applied Solution: This industrial RO was designed to purify well water and reduce sulfate for irrigational use. This particular customer already had the pre-treatment filters for the RO system in place. Therefore, we only provided the RO unit for this customer’s application. The system provided had the capacity to produce 40 GPM while treating 1,000 PPM TDS. This RO was designed to operate at very low temperatures around 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
